Thyme Tea

Thyme tea is a decaffeinated herbal beverage, which is made and brewed from the  flowers and leaves of the perennial herbs in the mint family of lamiaceae. Thyme tea contains antiseptic diuretic and diaphoretic properties, it also contains B vitamins and vitamin C. Thyme tea dates back to Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome,  as Egyptians used it as a source of preservation and Romans believed it was was a source of courage. Thyme tea has a mild leafy minty flavor with an earthy scent.

Health Benefits

  • Prevents the stiffening of muscles and tissues this is known as sclerosis, thanks to the anti-inflammatory properties in thyme tea, this helps:
    • Aid the central nervous system which improves:
      • Vision
      • Arm and/or leg movement, sensation or balance
  • Reduces Food-borne bacterial infections
  • Prevents and reduces yeast infections.
  • Lowers and treats high blood pressure
  • Fights against colon and breast cancer thanks to thyme tea and their ability to kill cancerous cells.
  • Provides skin health as will as treats common skin problems, which helps improve acne.
  • Aids in weight loss, as thyme tea contains metabolism boosting properties as well as is low in calories, as long as you drink the tea without sugar and milk.

  • Safe for pregnancy as it contains nutrients such as B vitamins and vitamin C and is caffeine free so it’s quite safe to drink, however, it should be consumed with caution by not drinking in large amounts as it could increase the contraction of uterine muscles as well as could increase blood pressure.

Side Effects

  • Warning for pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as children, thyme tea is known to be safe but drink with caution by not drinking in large amounts and consult your doctor before consumption.
  • People with bleeding disorders should avoid drinking thyme tea, as it could:
    • Encourage blood clotting
    • Increase the risk of bleeding
  • People with hormone sensitive conditions such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis and uterine fibroids should avoid consumption as thyme tea can mimic estrogen, which could make things worse if you suffer from these conditions- consult a doctor first.
  • Avoid drinking thyme tea if you have an upcoming surgery, as it could cause blood clotting, which could cause complications, consult a doctor if you wish to drink tea and/or stop drinking 2 weeks prior to surgery.
  • May cause allergic reactions, avoid drinking thyme tea if you are allergic similar plants  in the lamiaceae family such as like oregano.

Although herbal teas are known to be natural, that doesn’t mean that they are safe for everyone.
